Hazlehurst Urban Sketching Catch Up

As we approach April and our next urban sketching meetup on April 12th, let's reflect on our activities from February and March.

February Meetup

Our February gathering took place at Hazlehurst Studios, where sketchers explored the building and its immediate surroundings. Initially uncertain about the level of interest, we started the Hazlehurst Urban Sketching group in October 2023. Led by our studio artist, Allison John, these monthly events have blossomed into a delightful community. We will continue to host some sessions at Hazlehurst, spanning across two buildings at 71 and 73a High Street, ensuring plenty of diverse subjects to draw. Situated amidst various redevelopment projects, our surroundings offer endless inspiration.

March Meetup

In March, the sketchers ventured to our neighbours at Wat Phra Singh Buddhist Temple, who graciously hosted our session. For those unfamiliar, the temple, once a pub, has transformed over the past 11 years. We relished the opportunity to capture this unique venue, embracing its vibrant colours. Some even stepped out of their comfort zones, experimenting with an expanded palette. We look forward to returning to this location at some point.

You can find the results of the March meetup below.

The temple extends a warm welcome to visitors, hosting various events throughout the year beyond its regular schedule.

Upcoming Events at the temple you may be interested in attending:

- April 14th: Songkran Thai New Year Celebration

- June 23rd: 11th Anniversary of the Temple's Opening
