November saw the first series of 'Introduction to Print' with our studio artist Cathy Rounthwaite. Cathy, as well as being a founding member of Hazlehurst Studios, has been instrumental in developing the new print room within 71 High Street. It has been a delight to share the new facilities with new artists, and those totally new to print.
At Hazlehurst Studios we have a bespoke print room, which houses our print press. This is what you can see in the images below:
Over three sessions, Cathy guided the participants through the whole process of making their first linocut, from creating a design to using the right tools to cut out the pattern. the images below highlight the process of carving out the design onto the tile.
Once the carving of the tile was complete, it's time to introduce inking up. The images below show Cathy in action, as she inks up her design.

Once the participants have mastered a single colour Linocut print - it is time to introduce more colour - as you can see, there was lots of experiments with different colours.
