Official Opening of 71 High Street

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

On the 9th June we will be inviting you to join us as we officially open the doors to 71 High Street - from 12pm to 6pm we are welcoming visitors to explore the new and old spaces that now make up 'Hazlehurst Studios'.

Where: 71 and 73a High Street, Runcorn, Cheshire, WA7 1AH
When: 9th June 2023 from 12pm to 6pm

What will be on offer on the 9th June?

Hazlehurst Studios currently house twelve artists across the two buildings, and on the 9th June several of the artists will be on hand to talk about the studios and their own art practice. You will be invited to explore both buildings, which includes exhibition and workshop spaces, as well as artist studios. Please be aware that all the artist studio spaces are accessed by stairs, only the exhibition and workshop spaces are on ground level.

Artwork will be for sale throughout the building, please ask on artist if you are interested in purchasing something.

Exhibition and Workshop Space:

Having 71 High Street, as well as 73a High Street has allowed us to develop ground level exhibition and workshop spaces, where previously all of our space was located upstairs at 73a High Street. These spaces are multi use, so will be used for workshops, meetings and exhibitions and are available for hire to the local community.

The current exhibition in situ is the Hot Bed Press 20:20 Print Exchange:

This year’s complete collection of prints showcases 547 prints from 36 workshops and print collectives and it will be exhibited at Hot Bed Press in Salford, Hazlehurst Print in Cheshire, The University of Wolverhampton, Print Club, and The Art House in West Yorkshire.

Dates left to view: Friday 9th June - 12-6pm Tuesday 13th June - 1-3pm Thursday 15h June - 1-3pm

The exhibition is the perfect inspiration you need to join the print group, which you can find out more about when you visit the Print Room.

The Print Room

We are currently developing our new print space within 71 High Street, after moving the equipment from 73a High Street. This is the home of the Hazlehurst Print group and some of the members will be on hand on the 9th June to answer questions. There will also be artwork for sale.

Dark Room:

We are also developing a dark room and need to know how you would want to use a space like this, in order to create a facility that not only works for our artists in residence, but also to the wider community. There will be an artist on hand to answer questions and a area to leave feedback.

Vacant Studio Spaces:

We will start accepting expressions of interest for our newly available studio spaces on and after the 9th June. These spaces are situated across the two buildings (71 and 73a High Street). So if you are interested in looking at the spaces and getting an application in, then the 9th June is your first opportunity to do it. After the 9th of June, we will be sharing photographs of the current vacant spaces and the online application form will be going live.

What else?

We need to know what you want to do at Hazlehurst Studios, so throughout the building you will have to opportunity to let us know! We are aiming to launch a year long programme of events in September, but we need to know what you want to do and what day/time you want to do it on.

Reconnecting Runcorn Day

How can you join in?

The walk will start at 10am, meet at The Brindley and will finish around 12 at Hazlehurst Studios new premises 71 High Street - to book on this walk please email Claire at info@hazlehurststudios.co.uk

9th June: As well as being the official opening of 71 High Street, we also encourage you to visit a drop-in public event that will take place at The Brindley, where all seven Reconnecting Runcorn projects will be showcased.

Those attending will have the opportunity to view the proposed plans in detail, see artists impressions, speak directly to the architects and organisations involved in delivering the projects and give feedback.

As part of the showcase, there will also be a Question and Answer session starting at 5pm, with members of the Runcorn Town Deal Board available for answering questions from the public.
