John Bond -

This weeks entry into #drawonhalton on the subject of Libraries from local artist John Bond

In Halton we have what was probably the first free library in the country. Chesshyre Library built in 1730 and furnished with 400 books mainly ecclesiastical histories and law was intended for the incumbent of Halton and "for any divine or devines of the Church of England or other gentlemen or persons of letters". The Library is designated Grade 11* listed and the entrance gates Grade11.

This is a linoprint in two colour ways. The orange one having a Chine Colle page from a 1901 Widnes library book.

Corinne Denman:

Local Artist Cos Denman went to the old library in Runcorn old town and was sad to see the state such a beautiful building was in. She took some photos and used one for a quick sketch.

Wanting to do a happier picture too. So she did something based on the little library in the Old Town Bloom garden and added a few visitors from the bug hotel there too ~Old Town Bloomers Including Incredible Edible Runcorn #drawonhalton
